Venus pensylvanica was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: North Carolina-circum Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Phacoides (Here) pennsylvanicus by Vaughn et al. (1921); it was recombined as Phacoides (Here) pennsylvanica by Woodring et al. (1924); it was recombined as Linga pensylvanica by Portell et al. (1992); it was recombined as Lucina pensylvanica by Hendy et al. (2008).
