Subdichotomoceras was named by Spath [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm-l J Tith-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Virgatosphinctinae by Verma and Westermann (1973); to Pseudovirgatitinae by Mesezhnikov (1984); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
