Taxonomy
Cancer granulatus was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type species of Calappa.

It was recombined as Calappa granulata by Garassino and De Angeli (2004), Garassino et al. (2004) and De Angeli et al. (2009); it was recombined as Calappa granulatus by Tiwari et al. (1997), Collins et al. (2009) and Schweitzer et al. (2010).
