Subsaynella was named by Spath (1923) [Sepkoski's age data: K Haut-u K Barr-l]. Its type is Ammonites sayni.

It was assigned to Eodesmoceratinae by Haas (1960); to Barremitinae by Wright et al. (1996); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
