Turritella plebeia was named by Say (1824) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene; Virginia.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Turritella (Turritella) plebeia by Gardner (1948); it was recombined as Mariacolpus plebeia by Petuch (1988) and Hendy et al. (2008).
