Arca rustica was named by Tuomey and Holmes (1857) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Pleistocene; Florida.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Scapharca (Anadara) rustica by Dall (1898); it was recombined as Anadara (Anadara) rustica by DuBar (1958); it was recombined as Anadara rustica by Dubar and Furnbunch (1965); it was recombined as Anadara (Caloosarca) rustica by Olsson and Petit (1964) and Vokes (1969).
