Arca inaequilateralis was named by Guppy (1866) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Miocene-Early Pliocene; Jamaica, Dominican Republic. TYPE: cotype number listed.]. Its type specimen is BMNH 64089, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Arca (Scapharca) inaequilateralis by Anderson (1929); it was recombined as Anadara inaequilateralis by Vokes (1969); it was recombined as Anadara (Rasia) inaequilateralis by Woodring (1973).
