Peltaspermum was named by Harris (1937). It is not extant. Its type is Peltaspermum rotula.

It was assigned to Pteridospermophyta by Andrews (1970); and to Peltaspermaceae by Retallack (1981), Holmes (1982) and Meyen (1984).
