Leuthardtia was named by Kraüsel and Schaarschmidt (1966). It is not extant. Its type is Leuthardtia ovalis.

It was assigned to Bennettitales by Blazer (1975); to Peltaspermaceae by Meyen (1984); and to Glossophyllaceae by Dobruskina (1995).
