Thurmanniceras was named by Cossmann (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: K Berr K Vala-l]. Its type is Ammonites thurmanni.
It was assigned to Neocomitinae by Haas (1960); to Ammonoidea by Imlay (1960) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Neocomitinae by Imlay and Jones (1970), Arkadiev et al. (2000) and Klein (2005).
