Taxonomy
Arca cuculloides was named by Conrad (1833). Its type specimen is ANSP 30519, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Arca (Barbatia) cuculloides by Renick and Stenzel (1931), Mansfield (1940) and Harris (1951); it was recombined as Barbatia (Cucullaearca) cuculloides by Reinhart (1935) and Jung (1965).
