Torquatisphinctes was named by Spath [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm-l J Tith-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Virgatosphinctinae by Myczynski (1989); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
