Taxonomy
Caryophyllia (Acanthocyathus) fernandesi was named by Tavora et al. (2002). Its type locality is B-17 quarry, Capanema, which is in a Miocene lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in the Pirabas Formation of Brazil.
