Nucula claibornensis was named by Conrad (1848). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Nuculana claibornensis by Conrad (1865); it was recombined as Leda claibornensis by de Gregario (1890); it was recombined as Yoldia claibornensis by Dall (1898); it was recombined as Orthoyoldia claibornensis by Stenzel et al. (1957).
