Corbula murchisonii was named by Lea (1833). Its type specimen is ANSP 5061, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was corrected as Corbula murchisoni by Meyer and Aldrich (1886) and Harris (1919); it was recombined as Caestocorbula murchisonii by Palmer and Brann (1965) and CoBabe and Allmon (1994).
