Taxonomy
Murex vaughani was named by Maury (1910). Its type specimen is PRI 3461, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 554 - Chipola River, which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Murex (Murex) vaughani by Vokes (1963); it was recombined as Dermomurex (Viator) vaughani by Vokes (1975).
