Taxonomy
Murex toreia was named by Maury (1925). Its type specimen is No number, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rio Pirabas (Maury coll.), which is in a Miocene shallow subtidal limestone/limestone in the Pirabas Formation of Brazil.
It was recombined as Murex (Murex) toreia by Vokes (1963).
