Scalaria staminea was named by Conrad (1865). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Scalina.

It was recombined as Amaea (Scalina) staminea by Dushane (1988); it was recombined as Scalina staminea by Palmer (1937), DeVries (2007) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
