Mahajangasuchidae was named by Sereno and Larsson (2009). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Turner and Sertich (2010).
It was reranked as the unranked clade Mahajangasuchidae by Nicholl et al. (2021).
It was assigned to Neosuchia by Sereno and Larsson (2009); to Metasuchia by Andrade et al. (2011); and to Notosuchia by Turner and Sertich (2010), Sertich and O'Connor (2014) and Nicholl et al. (2021).
It was reranked as the unranked clade Mahajangasuchidae by Nicholl et al. (2021).
