Lophocrinacea was named by Bather (1899). It is not extant. Its type is Lophocrinus.

It was corrected as Lophocrinoidea by Webster et al. (2009) and Webster and Webster (2012).

It was assigned to Poteriocrinina by Ubaghs et al. (1978); to Cladida by Pabian and Rushlau (2002); and to Dendrocrinida by Webster et al. (2009) and Webster and Webster (2012).
