Taxonomy
Cyrnaonyx majori was named by Malatesta (1978) [Museum of the Instito di Geologia e Paleontologia, Universita di Roma]. Its type specimen is MIGP 1944-1946, a set of teeth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dragonara Cave, which is in a Pleistocene cave horizon in Italy.
It was recombined as Algarolutra majori by Willemsen (1992), Palombo (2005) and Willemsen (2006).
