Typhis curvirostratus was named by Conrad (1848). Its type specimen is ANSP 13484, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Laevityphis (Laevityphis) curvirostratus by Keen (1944); it was recombined as Typhis (Laevityphis) curvirostratus by Woodring (1959); it was recombined as Siphonochelus (Laevityphis) curvirostratus by Gertman (1969).
