Taxonomy
Worthoceras was named by Adkins (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-u K Turo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 716]. Its type is Macroscaphites platydorsatus.

It was assigned to Otoscaphitinae by Kennedy et al. (1987); to Scaphitidae by Henderson (1973) and Henderson (1990); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
