Taxonomy
Pterynotus (Purpurellus) repetiti was named by Vokes (1970). Its type specimen is USNM 646438, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 866 - Silverdale [Silverdale Fm], which is in an Oligocene marine horizon in the Silverdale Formation of North Carolina.
