Trophon dominicensis was named by Gabb (1873) [TYPE SPECIMEN: Lectotype.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 3252, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Murex dominicensis by Dall (1896); it was recombined as Paziella (Dallimurex) dominicensis by Woodring (1959); it was recombined as Poirieria (Paziella) dominicensis by Vokes (1970).
