Murex pazi was named by Crosse (1869). It is extant. Its type specimen is Coll. of J. of Conchyliologie (no #), a shell.

It was recombined as Murex (Phyllonotus) pazi by Dall (1889); it was recombined as Murex (Poirieria) pazi by Clench and Pérez Farfante (1945); it was recombined as Poirieria (Paziella) pazi by Vokes (1970).
