Taxonomy
Murex collatus was named by Guppy (1873). Its type specimen is USNM 115479, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Muricidea collata by Dall (1903); it was recombined as Muricopsis collatus by Woodring (1928); it was recombined as Paziella (Dallimurex) collatus by Woodring (1959); it was recombined as Poirieria (Flexopteron) collata by Vokes (1970).
