Taxonomy
Cerithiopsis inopinus was named by Hoerle (1972). Its type specimen is USNM 646962, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TU 555 - Fourmile Creek [Chipola Fm], which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
