Taxonomy
Venericardia planicosta samanensis was named by Olsson (1928). Its type specimen is UCMP 34928, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Venericardia samanensis by Olsson (1928); it was recombined as Venericardia (Venericor) samanensis by Gardner and Bowles (1939), Clark and Durham (1946) and Jung (1974).
