Lucina crenulata was named by Conrad (1840).

It was recombined as Phacoides (Parvilucina) crenulata by Glenn (1904); it was recombined as Phacoides crenulatus by Richards and Harbison (1944); it was recombined as Parvilucina crenulatus by Kidwell (1982); it was recombined as Parvilucina crenulata by Ward (1998).
