Taxonomy
Murex marksi was named by Harris (1894). Its type specimen is USNM 135148, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Murex (Phyllonotus) engonatus marksi by Harris and Palmer (1947); it was recombined as Hexaplex (Hexaplex) marksi by Vokes (1968).
