Vectibelus was named by Jeletzky (1981) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti Sepkoski's reference number: 306]. Its type is Conoteuthis vectensis.

It was assigned to Belemnitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Diplobelidae by Jeletzky (1981), Fuchs (2012) and Fuchs (2019).
