Priodontes (giant armadillo)

Mammalia - Cingulata - Dasypodidae

Taxonomy
Priodontes was named by Cuvier (1825) [a misspelling of Priodontes F. Cuvier 1825 usually (but incorrectly) attributed to McMurtrie 1831; in any case, preoccupied by Priodon Quay and Gaimard 1824 also said to be 1825]. It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Prionodon by Pocock (1933).

It was assigned to Dasypina by Gray (1825); to Dasypodidae by Palmer (1904); and to Priodontini by McKenna and Bell (1997) and Smith (2007).
