Taxonomy
Navajovius mckennai was named by Szalay (1969). It is not extant. Its type locality is Almagre (Upper Largo), which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the San Jose Formation of New Mexico.

It was recombined as Niptomomys mckennai by Bown (1979); it was recombined as Choctawius mckennai by Beard and Dawson (2009).
