Smilosuchus gregorii

Taxonomy
Machaeroprosopus gregorii was named by Camp (1930). Its type specimen is UCMP A272/27200, a skull (Complete skull, eight vertebrae, femur and three dermal scutes), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Round Rock 2 (UCMP A272), which is in a Norian terrestrial horizon in the Chinle Formation of Arizona.

It was recombined as Phytosaurus gregorii by Gregory (1962); it was recombined as Nicrosaurus gregorii by Westphal (1976); it was recombined as Rutiodon gregorii by Parrish and Carpenter (1986) and Parrish (1993); it was recombined as Leptosuchus gregorii by Irmis (2005); it was recombined as Smilosuchus gregorii by Long and Murry (1995), Lucas et al. (1997), Lucas et al. (2002), Spielmann et al. (2006), Stocker (2010), Nesbitt (2011), Spielmann and Lucas (2012), Hungerbühler et al. (2013), Stocker and Butler (2013) and Parker et al. (2013).
