Kalohipus was named by Fuentes Vidarte and Meijide Calvo (1998). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Kalohipus bretunensis.

It was assigned to Theropoda by Fuentes Vidarte and Meijide Calvo (1998); and to Theropoda by Gierlinski et al. (2009).
