Naefia was named by Wetzel (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Naefia neogaeia.
It was assigned to Sepiida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Groenlandibelidae by Jeletzky (1966), Fuchs and Tanabe (2010) and Fuchs et al. (2013).
