Taxonomy
Turritragus casteanensis was named by Abbazzi et al. (2008). Its type specimen is IGF 14631, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fiumi Santo, which is in a Tortonian terrestrial horizon in Italy. It is the type species of Turritragus.
