Vasseuria was named by Munier-Chalmas (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l Sepkoski's reference number: 307]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Vasseuriidae.

It was assigned to Vasseuriidae by Jeletzky (1966); and to Sepiida by Sepkoski (2002).
