Haynesina was named by Banner and Culver (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio-l R]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Holzmann and Pawlowski (2017).

It was assigned to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Haynesinidae by Holzmann and Pawlowski (2017).
