Glochinomorpha was named by Gordon (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon Sepkoski's reference number: 310]. Its type is Glochinomorpha stifeli. It is the type genus of Glochinomorphidae.

It was assigned to Glochinomorphidae by Gordon (1971); to Teuthida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Coleoidea by Doyle et al. (1994) and Doguzhaeva and Mapes (2015).
