Taxonomy
Muensterella was named by Schevill (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-l Sepkoski's reference number: 307]. It is the type genus of Muensterellidae, Muensterelloidea.

It was assigned to Teuthida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Muensterellidae by Fuchs et al. (2003) and Fuchs et al. (2019).
