Aulacoceras was named by von Hauer (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife Tr Nori-l Sepkoski's reference number: 307,1066]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Aulacoceratidae.
It was assigned to Aulacoceratinae by von Mojsisovics (1882); to Aulacocerida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aulacoceratidae by von Mojsisovics (1902), Jeletzky (1966) and Riccardi (2019).
