Derorhynchidae was named by Paula Couto (1962). It is not extant. Its type is Derorhynchus.

It was assigned to Didelphoidea by Case et al. (2004); to Didelphimorphia by Goin et al. (1999) and Gelfo et al. (2007); and to Ameridelphia by Oliveira and Goin (2011).
