Bicrenula was named by Williams and Breger (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras]. Its type is Palaeoneilo bisulcata.

It was assigned to Malletiidae by Cox et al. (1969) and Pojeta et al. (1986); and to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002).
