Pecten dentatus was named by Sowerby (1829) [non Pecten dentatus G. B. Sowerby 1835 (extant species)]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pecten (Pecten) dentatus by Arnold (1903); it was recombined as Pseudopecten (Pseudopecten) dentatus by Gahr (2002).
