Taxonomy
Pecten macdonaldi was named by Olsson (1922). Its type specimen is PRI 21132, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pecten (Pecten) macdonaldi by Mansfield (1932); it was recombined as Flabellipecten gatunensis macdonaldi by Woodring (1982).
