Taxonomy
Cardiolaria was named by Munier-Chalmas (1876) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u S Ludl Sepkoski's reference number: 948,1046].

It was assigned to Praenuculidae by Cox et al. (1969) and Vokes (1980); to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cardiolariidae by Cope (1997) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
