Arca lienosa was named by Say (1832) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Pleistocene; Atlantic Coastal Plain.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Scapharca lienosa by Conrad (1863); it was recombined as Scapharca (Scapharca) lienosa by Dall (1898); it was recombined as Arca (Scapharca) lienosa by Hodson et al. (1927); it was recombined as Arca (Anadara) lienosa by Mansfield (1932); it was recombined as Anadara lienosa by Gardner (1943); it was recombined as Anadara (Anadara) lienosa by DuBar (1958); it was recombined as Anadara (Rasia) lienosa by Woodring (1973).
