Taxonomy
Ostrea haitensis was named by Sowerby (1850).

It was recombined as Pycnodonta haitensis by Olsson and Petit (1964); it was recombined as Hyotissa haitensis by Woodring (1982), Ward (1992) and Perrilliat (1994).
